Looking Glass District
The Looking Glass District serves the half of Buncombe County south of I-40, along with Henderson and Transylvania Counties.
Looking Glass District takes its name from Looking Glass Rock, an iconic landmark in western North Carolina. Rising above the surrounding forest, the rock symbolizes strength, perseverance, and the spirit of adventure that are central to Scouting.
The original naming proposal connected the rock’s reflective face with our responsibility to reflect Scouting’s values. Through leadership, service, and everyday actions, our Scouts and volunteers bring those values to life and demonstrate the difference Scouting can make in our communities.
The rock’s enduring foundation represents the support Scouting provides young people as they build confidence, develop skills, and form lasting friendships. The climb to its summit reminds us that growth takes preparation, perseverance, and companions we can trust. Along the way, we overcome challenges together and discover what we are capable of achieving.
Our name celebrates both the mountains we call home and our commitment to future generations: to provide a strong foundation, help young people rise to new challenges, and reflect the best of Scouting in all we do.
