FALLING WATERS PINEWOOD DERBY (2025) RULES AND GUIDLINES

1.  YOU MUST USE THE OFFICIAL PINEWOOD DERBY CAR KIT.

2.  ANYONE CAN HELP YOU BUILD THE CAR.

3.  ANY TOOL(S) CAN BE USED WHEN DONE SAFELY UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION.

4.  SIZE AND TOLERANCES:

  •          Length ---------------------------------------------------  (7) inches (maximum)
  •          Width  ---------------------------------------------------  (2 3/4) inches (maximum)
  •          Height------------------------------------------------------  (not to exceed 5inches)
  •          Distance between the wheels (side to side)  --  (1 3/4) inches
  •          Ground clearance  ------------------------------------  (3/8) inch
  •          Weight  --------------------------------------------------  (5.0) ounces

5.  AXLES MUST BE INSERTED INTO THE EXISTING SLOTS IN THE PINE BLOCK.  THE WHEELBASE  CANNOT BE CHANGED OR RELOCATED.  HOWEVER, THE CAR CAN BE BUILT TO RUN BACKWARDS.

6.  Wheels may not be cut, drilled, beveled, or rounded. You may remove the seams from the wheels.

7.  Axles may be polished and lubricated using only dry lubricates.

            a. Wheel bearings, washers, or bushing are prohibited.

            b. The wheelbase of the car must be between 4-4.5 inches.

            c. The car must be freewheeling and powered by gravity only with no starting devices.

8.  No loose material of any kind such as lead shot may be used.

9.  The car body may have no moving parts.

10. The front of the car cannot be designed to gain an unfair advantage by shortening the distance between the start pin and the finish line sensor.

11. No part of the car can extend past the start pin.

12. Only one car can be registered by any person in the primary race.

13. ONCE THE CAR HAS BEEN "CHECKED IN", IT CANNOT BE TOUCHED AGAIN EXCEPT UNDER SUPERVISION OF THE STAFF UNTIL AFTER THE COMPETITION.

14. NO ADDITIONAL LUBRICATION WILL BE ALLOWED AFTER "CHECK IN".

15. ALL WEIGHTS MUST BE SECURELY ATTACHED TO THE CAR.  REPLACING ANY LOOSE WEIGHTS WILL BE DONE BY THE OWNER UNDER SUPERVISION OF THE STAFF IN CHARGE.

16.  IF A BROKEN CAR CANNOT BE FIXED BY THE OWNER, UNDER STAFF SUPERVISION, IT WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

17. Remember this is not Nascar! This is for the youth. Any complaints or “helpful” suggestions should be given to the District Executive not the volunteers running the race. Those who complain will be volunteering to organize and run next year’s race.

18. The open Race will be for all ages, companies, Scouts, Etc who wish to compete for bragging rights and the Open race trophies. There will be a fee of $5 for anyone wishing to compete in this race.
