The Executive Committee of the Daniel Boone Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Connie Bowes to the position of Scout Executive, effective August 1, 2008.

A native of North Carolina, Connie’s career in Scouting began more than 19 years ago when he joined the East Carolina Council as a District Executive. Connie moved to Charlotte in 1992 as a Sr. District Executive for the Mecklenburg County Council where he coordinated In-School Scouting and Learning for Life programs for youth with special needs before being promoted to District Director. In 2001, Connie joined the staff of the Occoneechee Council as field director and was promoted to Director of Field Service in 2005, managing a team of 15 professional staff and up to 10 paraprofessionals.

During his career Connie has also served as C.O.P.E. Director at Camp Bonner for the East Carolina Council, Camp Director at Camp Grimes in Nebo, NC and Webelos Camp Director for the Mecklenburg County Council. Connie has also served on the National Camp School Staff for program and management.

Connie is personally motivated to recruit youth to join Scouting. “I was never a Scout as a youth,” said Connie, “because no one ever asked me to join. That experience drives me to make sure that all youth are invited to be a part of a great Scouting experience.”

Connie received his bachelor of arts in theatre from St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, NC. He and his wife, Maria, have three sons; two currently in Boy Scouting.
